In May 2007, I spent ten days in Iceland. This was my first trip to the country, and like the majority of travellers started off in the Reykjavik area.
We spent a couple of days exploring Reykjavik, taking a whale-watching tour and visiting the Golden Circle, with sights such as Geysir, Gullfoss and Thingvellir.
After this, we ventured east following Road 1 around to Höfn. On the way, we made several stops at places such as the Skaftafell National Park, where I braved an ascent of Kristinartindar, giving amazing views out over the icecap and Skaftafellsjökull glacier, and over to mountains such as Iceland's highest, Hvannadalshnúkur.
Further round the coast we stopped off at the breathtaking Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon. Our trip ended just around the coast from Höfn, with views out over to the East Fjords.
